P1eX Based Amp
My main amp for a number of years was built following the P1 eXtreme schematic from AX84.
I tried a bunch of power tubes and found my favorite was a Svetlana (I
think now they're SED Winged C) EL 34. Although the amp sounds great
cranked up and overdriving the preamp and pushing the power amp, for the
worship band I installed a switchable cathode resistor to reduce gain
and I typically run the amp clean (though on the edge of breakup) and
use my pedal board to generate the distortion.
Sadly, although I built a nice cabinet for it, I never did the faceplate. It is on the To Do List!
